19th February 2012: Wideopen Meteors v. Westgate Warriors
It was a very cold start going into our first game in 4 weeks, however we started off with tremendous pace and within the opening minutes Mitchell Douglas took the ball from the half way line and smashed it home. Westgate soon retaliated and equalised within minutes of us going ahead. An injury to our Goal keeper meant Brandon Gibbon had to go in nets he had a great game pulling off some good saves and kicking some powerful kicks - well done Brandon. The first half was evenly matched, Wideopen scored again, Daniel Ridley making a run down the left wing and planting the ball in the bottom left-hand corner of the net, a cracking first goal for him and he continued throughout the match to play superbly along with Martyn Black in defence who saved the day a few times with some great tackles stopping Westgate breaking away. Westgate pulled another goal back and we went into the second half two's each. It went downhill for Wideopen in the second half. Adam Coates had a near miss which saw him narrowly miss out on his first goal for the team. Westgates defence were strong and solid they went on to score 4 goals in the second half which left Wideopen deflated and all out of sorts.

Managers Comment: Well done toady to Daniel Ridley and Martyn Black you both had great games. We seemed to have a difficult match today and weren't the Wideopen Meteors we have been of late. We need to put this game behind us and move on and get our momentum and team spirit back. |
