08/01/12: Wideopen 2 - 1 Cramlington Juniors
On Sunday, Wideopen Comets went into their Divisional Cup quarter final against Cramlington Juniors after a long winter break.
As the game started it was obvious from the start that the boys were lacking regular match football. Cramlington started quick and fast as Wideopen looked like rabbits caught in the head lights. Some great passing moves and possession led to what was a deserved opener from Cramlington in the first 15 seconds of the match. The first half was much the same but slowly Wideopen started to get back into it. As the first half ended, it was 1-0 to Juniors.
The second half started and Wideopen were on top from the start. The boys had found their feet and their commitment was second to none. They were all over juniors and piled on the pressure and deserved to equalise. Wideopen were awarded a penalty and Sam Ray stepped up to take it. Sadly for Wideopen it went wide. But, undeterred by that, the boys went straight back on the attack and picked up an equaliser through Samuel Warren with a great effort. Now back on equal terms the boys really went for it. Charlie Bates was in scintillating form on the left and was unbeatable. Some of the tackles he made, John Terry would be proud of, some of the others, Vinny Jones!!. As they piled the pressure on, a ball was swung in from the right from the boot of Samuel Warren and Ben Mason was there to meet it with a fine header to take the lead. As the final whistle went, Wideopen were through to the semi finals of the cup. Commiserations to Juniors who were a fantastic side.
