Match Report: Wideopen vs Red House Farm Thunder 27/04/08
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Joe F, Joseph F, Sean T, Lee A, Conner T, Connor M, Jack R, Liam M.
Wideopen came into this game on the back of some really good performances, unfortunately this good form wasn't able to be put into this game, as from the first whistle to the final we struggled to get up to speed with Red House's game.
We allowed Red House far to much time to settle on the ball and get there heads up to pick out teammates. Doing this to any team is only asking for trouble.
Two nice strikes had Red House Farm thunder gave them a good lead going into the break 0-2.
Second half was a little better as players were trying to close down lay a little more. This resulted in Wideopen having a little more possession of the ball and were able to play a little higher up the pitch. Unfortunately this also opened the game up and allow Red House to get some really golden opportunities to increase there lead. Red House got a further three goals as Wideopen went on the goal hunt. 0-5.
Man of the Match: Matthew L carried some good form into this game pulling off some nice saves and to be honest he wasn't to do much with any of the goals. the real impressive thing that the coaching staff noticed was the willingness to order the whole of the out field around telling them exactly where he wanted them.
Managers comments: really disappointed with not really the result but with the performance. we never got close or really showed wanting to win any ball all day.

Match Report: Wallsend town vs Wideopen 19/04/08
Squad: Matthew C (captain), MAtthew L, Lee A, Joe F, Joseph F, Conner T, Connor M, Jack R, Sean T.
After such a good performance last week but with no result, the lads were keen to record a victory this time out.
As the game started there was nothing really to shout about for the first 10mins. With the game in danger of dying a death the introduction of Sean T and Joseph F brought a new look on things. The fresh vision in the team had a few chances go close, how to this day Wideopen weren't awarded a penalty when Joe F was sized down from behind in the box I will never know. A free kick was awarded a little later just inside Wallsend's half, up stepped Joseph F and smashed home a beaut. The keeper managed to get fingers on the shot but only to hit the underside of the bar and in 0-1.
With fresh instruction at halftime Wideopen were never to look back. A half cleared corner was won back by Joseph F with all waiting for the ball to come back in the box Joseph had different ideas on his so called wrong food hit home a nice mid range strike 0-2.
Joe F was fed the ball soon after, breezed past the last defender only then to smash home his first of the game and had Wideopen 0-3 up.
Joseph managed to finish off his goal hunt for the day with his complete hat trick as he was in the right place at the right time to tap in a close range right footed effort. 0-4.
Lee A got his first of the season as he was put through one on one with the keeper. He managed to keep his head as he had a long way to run and a long time to think of where he wanted to put his effort. Lee hit the ball so hard from close range he nearly broke the net.
Man of the Match: Joseph F. what a performance, from the second he entered the pitch from the suds bench in the first half he changed the game for Wideopen's benefit. ever time he was near the ball he made things happen.
Managers comments: pleased with result and the last to thirds of the game, however if we were to start so slowly against better opposition the result could be so different.

Match Report: Wideopen vs Montagu Lions 09/04/08
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Lee A, Sean T, Joe F, Joseph F, Connor M, Conner T.
After coming up against Montagu Lions a few times in the pre-season we knew one thing and that was that we needed to improve so much on our last outing if we were going to just keep the score down in single figures. Some things are so important when coming up against the better teams in your league, firstly you need your goal keeper on top of his game with your defence in front of him so concentrated and organised, to top it off you need your midfield wanting to run all night long closing down play and putting in as many blocks as humanly possible. Then and only then are able to think of even trying to push the ball around yourself.
it was so pleasing to see Wideopen put in a performance that I have just described above all the guys should be so proud. It all started in the very first tackle when one of the Montagu guys found himself on his backside, this seemed to inject all the lads with belief. Matthew L continued his great form in goal and seem to be able to cover so much ground with ease, save after save was greeted with huge applause and disbelief at time from both sides. Only to long range efforts had Montagu sporting a 0-2 lead.
In the second half Wideopen were able to have a little more joy going forward but unfortunately without reward. Montagu came forward time and time again with Wideopen rising to the challenge each time. The game finished 0-4 with a good headed corner and a lovely finish rounding off a great bit of skill.
All the lads were on a high when they finished knowing that they played so well and if we were honest probably three of the four goals we though we could of done better with. You could tell it was one of those days that both sides were so gutted hat they had to stop and actually go home.
Football was the winner today. I strongly suggest that those over paid fairies who roll around in the grass on a Saturday afternoon should try and catch one of these games to remind them how football should be played!!!
Man of the match: Matthew L in goal stood out by a country mile, what a performance. If he continues to listen and tries to take in as much as possible the sky is his only limit.
Managers comments: I am so pleased with the lads, they all played so well. They were all gutted when they had to be sub. I just hope that we can remember how to play like this. If we do think we are going to need a stand built next to our pitch.

Match Report: Wideopen vs Red House Farm 05/04/08
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Lee A, Sean T, Joe F, Joseph F, Jack R, Conner T, Connor M.
Wideopen started the game well, passing the ball around well putting Red House Farm's defence under lots of pressure on regular occasions but without really troubling Red House's goalkeeper.
The first most significant moment happened when Red House broke through Wideopen's defence who had been camped out on the halfway line for some minutes. As they advanced towards Matthew L in goal before Red House's striker knew it Matthew L had moved right up to his limits of his box forcing an impossible effort wide of Wideopen's goal.
Not long later Joe F broke onto a bouncing ball outside Red House's box and smashed home a beautiful volley leaving their goalkeeper no chance 1-0. Many more attacks followed for Wideopen but with no reward going into halftime.
Straight after the restart alarm bells rang as Red House started strong and Wideopen's first half comfort nowhere to be seen.
The heavens opened battering the pitch with snow and rain, only Red House wanted to know banging two quick goals during the small storm 1-2.
Handball in Red House's box got Wideopen back on level terms as Matthew C smashed home his duty 2-2.
Straight from the kick off Red House pressed and scored a lovely long range effort 2-3.
if it weren't for a back to form Matthew L in goal the score line could have easily become embarrassing, cries of 'what a save!!!!!!' echoed from both touchline throughout the second half. What a performance Matthew L.
Man of the Match: Matthew L.
Managers comments: tackles seemed none existent throughout the game. A little saying in football was so true today, you must score when you are on top, we didn't and it came back to haunt us in the end. Much needed improvement for our next game vs Montagu.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match Report: Newbiggin Hall Vs Wideopen 15/03/08
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Lee A, Anthony B, Sean T, Joe F, Joseph F, Jack R, Conner T, Connor M
With such a nasty result in our previous performance, the lads just wanted another game to put right all the wrongs that occurred that week.
As the guys took the field, within the first few minutes we knew that Newbiggin Hall were going to be in a hard game. It seemed as if this was the backlash of all those frustrating results recently. All the hours spent with the defence on position and cover-play all come good as Newbiggin were only able to break clear once only to find Matthew L back on top of his game in goal. That, coupled with our front three not giving any single player a second on the ball or time to think what to do next. Many chances were squandered but a really well taken double from Conner T was so very nearly a first-half hat-trick, only to see his effort go so close just past the far post. It would have been so well deserved with him enjoying his best performance for Wideopen to-date. 2-0 halftime.
The second-half had a very similar shape to it, the only thing we could really complain about is that we just seemed to want to create the perfect goal and therefore over played at times. Many half chances were wasted without really having Newbiggin's keeper jumping around much. Our final goal came from a lovely struck ball from distance by Joseph F which carried to much power for Newbiggin's keeper who could only play the ball onto the post and then into the goal. 3-0 was to be the final score.
Man of the Match: Conner T
Managers comments: The whole squad can be so pleased with their performances today. All throughout the game we worked so hard. We just need to try to take the game by the scruff of the neck and shut it out when we get the chance early on. Very pleased.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match Report: Wideopen Vs Heaton Hawks Blues 08/03/08
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Connor M, Conner T, Lee A, Jack R, Liam M, Sean T, Joe F, Joseph F.
Following the close game the last time out against Heaton Hawks, the lads seemed upbeat. This was a chance to put the score right after being on the wrong end of a 4-2 loss in the early season.
As the game started, the first 10 mins could have seen any of the two sides take the lead. As the game aged Heaton were able to break through Wideopen's defence too often, this would be wideopen's downfall as the halftime score read 3-0 to Heaton.
In the halftime chat with the lads all knew just exactly what was going wrong and hope was installed once more.
Into the wide in the second half Wideopen couldn't really get on the Heaton's goal enough to really threaten the score. The old trap was opened once more as Wideopen pushed forward more and more to get goals back Heaton were just able to break and increase the score for themselves. Game ended 7-0
Man of the Match: none
Managers comments: Disapointing performance. We need to carry more presence on the pitch and pack more of punch in the tackle.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match Report: Westgate Worriors Vs Wideopen 01/03/08
Squad: Connor M (captain), Matthew L, Conner T, Sean T, Joseph F, Joe F, Jack R, Anthony B, Liam M, Lee A.
This game seen the captain's armband passed to Connor M as Matthew C was away skiing in Europe.
Following a great performance in our previous game hopes were high in this our next away fixture. unfortunatly for both sides the wind was threatening to spoil the game from the off.
It didn't take Westgate long to take the lead with a very direct aproach the ball cut our defence straight in two and found itself in the back of the net 1-0. Sean T managed to pull the game back to a draw come half time with a very well take equailser 1-1.
The second half kicked off and was to be just as scrappy as the first. Westgate were able then to take the lead after the referee deemed the ball to have crossed the line - this was hotly contested by all especially those in and around the area 2-1. This ended up being the decisive goal of the game.
Man of the Match: Connor M
Managers comments: Overall it was a very poor performance we never really managed to get it our stride. The game was spoiled for both sides by the wind. Lets hope we can put this disappointment behind us as we look forward to the next fixture.

Match Report: Montagu Eagles vs Wideopen 16/02/08
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Lee A, Connor M, Conner T, Jack R, Joe F, Joseph F, Sean T, Anthony B. Liam M (ankle injury)
With the heavy defeat of last week still fresh in everyone's heads, and no wins away from home, we were all anxious of how today would go. From the kick off it looked like it could have been anyone's game, Montague hit the post and some fine saves from England's future number one Matthew L kept Wideopen well in the game. Some good surging runs from Joseph F, Conner T and Joe F still didn't give Wideopen the lead, but the effort was there 0-0 half time. Second half Sean T on for Conner T the team talk had effect and a total different Wideopen team were on the pitch. After some good early pressure, Wideopen won a corner Joseph F put the ball down and struck a well placed pass to Joe F on the edge of the box one touch to control and BANG!!!!!!!!!!! 1-0 to Wideopen. Montagu to kick off as soon as that happened Joe F stole the ball and surged forward took on a few players, found the space Joseph F was running into a little pass Joseph F struck the ball well great goal 2-0 Wideopen. Things were looking good but one lapse in defence saw Montague pull one back, Wideopen wanted to win this game and Joe F surged forward again only to hit post with a special strike, Soon after Joe F ran forward again showed some skill and finished the ball well 3-1 Wideopen. Some fantastic defending kept the lead safe for Wideopen in the last few minutes but then Joe F picked up the ball ran forward again and used his strength to keep the ball, saw the keeper off the line and a fantastic finish lobbed the keeper and completed Joe's hat trick, Goal of the game.
Man of The Match: Connor Marley, Not the player we know last week, but a fine performance with no nonsense tackles and quick thinking well deserved.
Managers Comments: Well done today much improved performance hope we can keep this up, pleased for the first win away. Good luck in the game on the 29/02/2008.

Match Report: Wideopen vs Newcastle East End 09/02/08
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Connor M, Conner T, Lee A, Liam M, Sean T, Joseph F, Joe F, Jack R.
The guys have trained all the way through the winter break not stopping even for Christmas. All kinds of weather conditions have been put in front of the lads but it was the hunger to learn that won every time.
When Wideopen went to Newcastle East End on the first day of the season we did not carry much confidence following some poor displays in late pre-season tournaments. We thought that the 5-0 defeat was not a clear result of both teams. However, this time round on the return fixture we were not able to better that result ending our unbeaten home record and recorded a 6-0 defeat.
What went on out there I will never be able to understand. when players were substituted they all knew exactly what was going wrong but just didn't seem to be able to do anything about it. We were not able to tackle at all or put a pass together. This was a great shame because it was not all bad, there was a bit of good out there to especially from Jack R who done exactly what was explained in some really hard and complex training sessions. Really well deserved man of the match performance Jack.
Managers comments: all that hard work done during the winter seemed such a waste. We really need to do the very basics right, that means putting in tackles that count and looking to help each other win the ball back when we lose it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First Half Season Report
Coaches report.
In the eight months that we have been coaching the lads we have seen a huge improvement in each and every player all in their own different ways. individually the guys have been working on their first touches and passing accuracy with great results. Collectively as a team they're improving with every game both going forward and defending as a unit.
We now find ourselves in our 7 week winter break. We are looking to work on parts of our game that we found needs attention. I am sure you all want to know what we will be working on but without knowing who may read this I am unable to release our training plans for for coming weeks.
All the coaching staff are looking forward to seeing what the results will be following the extra training during the winter on the field once the season starts up again. We are hoping for good attendance during the winter to maximise the lads' chances of improvement.
Captain's Report
At the start of this season we had rough times. As we went on, we have improved quite a bit and all of the team have been practising their skills. We also have been trying to mark other players from the other teams and been talking about where we should be standing in our positions.
However the team needs to practise their passing skills more by making sure they look for spaces. We must start winning our away games.
As yet we have not lost our homes games and we have drawn once.
We will always be learning new skills from our coaches and hopefully we can use these in our away games more.
Matthew Casey – Captain

Match Report: Red House Farm Thunder vs Wideopen
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Connor M, Conner T, Jack R, Lee A, Joseph F, Sean T, Liam M, Joe F, Anthony B
Wideopen have played against Red House Farm Thunder a few times in pre-season tournaments and knew what they were up against getting narrowly beat in all occasions. With significant improvement in Wideopen's all round squad, hopes were high on arrival.
As soon as the game got under way, coaches knew straight away all was not well. After ten minutes Wideopen conceded their first of the day with the second not far away. Wideopen knew all their players would have to be playing near to their best to crawl back this deficit but only worse was to come as two came three then four. At such a young age, naturally heads dropped with the final score reading 6-0.
Man of the Match: This was very well deserved as Conner T never for one second believed he was going to be on the losing side, covering so much distance and putting in tackles to be really proud of. If only we could have had 6 other performances the same, the result would have so much different.
Managers Comments: We know we are so much better than that. Only last week we were so much different all across the field. The most noticeable difference was the time we allowed Red House on the ball and the space they were all allowed to play in, not to mention the lack of weight and belief in the tackle, that was if the tackle was even there.
So that left us with the first nasty taste in our mouths, we have lots to work on in training but I am sure the old Wideopen won't take too much work to find again.
Fund raising followed the game on Saturday and well done to all involved. We managed to raise close to £1050 at Morrisons with the U10's.

Match Report: Wideopen vs Kingston Park Oranges
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Sean T, Connor M, Joe F, Conner T, Keiron F, Lee A, Joseph F, Jack R, Anthony B.
With only playing Kingston Park not so long back that game was still fresh in the management's minds. That day Wideopen never seemed to get going at all and nearly sneaked a win, so this time round all were looking forward to the game.
With a slow start, Kingston Park were able to get on top of the game early on, without really getting too many clear cut chances. It took around ten minutes for Wideopen to warm up to the match and were able to contribute to the attacking themselves. What was noticeable was the performance of the whole defensive back line throughout the game. Opposing players were not given the time on the ball to turn or even think before Wideopen took it back.
A penalty kick was awarded to Wideopen for hand ball from one of the Kingston Park defenders. Matthew C stood up to the ball fresh from penalty practice sessions only two weeks earlier. He struck home with ease and I kid you not a premiership standard keeper would have done well to get anywhere near as it was drilled low and hard centimetres from the post. 1-0 halftime.
Second half was a good game to watch with both teams believing they could both leave with a win. It was looking in Wideopen's favour as the defence were so organised and effective all day linking to constant breaks on the Kingston Park goal. The worst part of the game was to follow as all stopped thinking and allowed Kingston Park time to turn and think. As Wideopen failed to close down a shot from outside the box a few desperate blocks were just in vain as the ball fell kindly for Kingston Park to slot home 1-1.
As Wideopen tried to get the advantage back with a few good opportunities it just didn't seem to be their day and the game ended 1-1. Our hero at halftime Wideopen's goalkeeper Matthew L came into the team talk in tears, his stomach was killing him. Naturally we went to make the substitution then Matthew turned and said "under no circumstances he would consider leaving the field of play without job done". Not only does this young guy have a real gift as a talented goalkeeper, he seems to have a lion's heart to match.
Man of the Match: Another great centre-half's performance from Connor M.
Managers Comments: The defence was great all game reading the play and really aggressive. We created chances but just didn't get the run of the green in the final third. Good performance, just unlucky.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match Report: Red House Farm vs Wideopen 24/11/07
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Lee A, Connor M, Conner T, Jack R, Joe F, Joseph F, Sean T, Liam M, Anthony B, Kieron F
The first half took shape early on with most the play being played in the Red House Farm half but with one huge difference, the game was very slow with lots of lengthy breaks for a number of injuries. Wideopen were unable to put their own tempo on the game even though they held Red House to play in their own half. Only a handful of shots were recorded in the first half with none worrying the keeper too much. Halftime 0-0.
Second half Wideopen found the game became more stretched and should have been able to dictate play with more result having more space but this was never the case as Red House grew from the fact they were able to hold Wideopen in the first half. As Wideopen had a good strike from Joe F converted to make it 1-0. However, this did not have the required affect as Red House rose to the occasion and began to push Wideopen back looking for the equaliser.
All day long Wideopen were looking to the performance of Connor M at the heart of the defence to keep them in the lead. All this effort was in vain as Red House were able to equalise from a good free kick themselves 1-1 and then take the lead with a disappointing goal for Wideopen to concede 2-1. Wideopen didn't really offer much more to worry Red House and left this game with yet another away defeat.
Man of the Match: Connor M
Managers Comments: Today was just one of those days where we couldn't work together and make things work. That was not us out there, as we all know.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match Report: Wideopen vs Wallsend Town 17/11/07
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Connar T, Connor M, Lee A, Jack R, Sean T, Joe F, Joseph F, Liam M, Anthony B, Kieron F
This game took shape very early on as Wideopen were to have the lion share of possession throughout. Wideopen were to hold shape and create a number of good opportunities but for a number of reasons they were not able to break the deadlock in the first half. The ball was being pushed wide with crosses to match, good through balls and individual runs were all present. The management team put this down to nerves, the lads seemed to panic with the ball.
So, with the fresh new instructions to relax in possession and believe in their ability, Wideopen returned to the action with a whole new look on the game. Almost immediately Joe F picked up possession and ran straight at the heart of Wallsend's defence, his run was broken only by a desperate tackle. Just as Wallsend thought they had done enough, the ball broke to just the right guy, Joseph F, who with one touch to control then nearly took the net off with his shot from just outside the box 1-0. Not long at all after the restart Wideopen were awarded a corner. Same as last week, Joseph F decided he would go straight for goal after starting the ball one foot out from the goal line the ball done its thing under Joseph's spell and found the back of the net 2-0. Straight from the kick Wideopen took the ball from Wallsend and drove to their box, as Joe F picked up the ball, jinked past one, then blasted a low drive home 3-0. With only minutes gone in the second-half, Wideopen looked as this was going to be a very fruitful game but for some reason they just backed off and started to stroll around. This gave Wallsend heart ten minutes later as they were able to break Wideopen's defensive line and score one for themselves 3-1. With that little scare, Wideopen then started playing again coming close a number of times. The game was put to bed when Joe F took the ball past three and slotted a beautiful ball past the advancing keeper from close quarters to make it 4-1.
Man of the Match: Joe F.
Managers comments: Not a really good display today, we were weak in our tackles and panicked too often when in possession. Good thing was we were getting our heads up more as we entered the last third of the pitch with was very positive.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match Report: Wideopen vs Newbiggin Hall 03/11/07
Squad: Matthew C (captain), matthew L, Connar T, Connor M, Joe F, Joseph F, Jack R, Sean T, Lee A, Anthony B.
Wideopen started this game with some real good positional sense which was carried throughout the game. Wideopen were able to play a major part of the first half in Newbiggin's half which brought many efforts on goal but none that really warranted an opener. Joe F. started off a great move for the opener as he ran down the left breaking a few tackles then found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper as he entered the box, looked up and played a great ball to fellow runner Joseph F. who was able to place a shot under the keeper 1-0 halftime.
A few minutes into the second half Joe F. broke free of the defence and with pressure arriving placed a nice left footed shot off the post and in 2-0. All day Wideopen struggled to come to terms with Newbiggin's red booted left winger who had a lovely turn of pace and a lethal shot, before Wideopen knew he got two and pulled the game back to 2-2. It was looking like one of those games until Joseph F decided he would curl a beautiful corner straight into the net. 3-2. Matthew C was able to add a 4th as he latched onto a loose ball and took all by surprise. Wideopen really should have added to the score but wasted many opportunities. Wideopen's defence looked exceptional all game covering for each other where needed and communicating throughout. Wideopen's defensive coach was left with a huge smile as drills from training were executed to perfection.
Man of the Match: Joseph F.
Managers Comments: To watch 7yr old lad communicating and ordering each other around the park was really pleasing. We look like we are all starting to understand playing the game as a team well done.

Match Report: Heaton Hawks Blues vs Wideopen 27/10/07
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Connar T, Coonor M, Joe F, Joseph F, Jack R, Sean T, Lee A, Anthany B.
Heaton and Wideopen opened the game with a good exchange of play, both sporting some good passing moves. as Wideopen tried to turn the play from defence into attack Heaton were able to jump on a loose ball, following a good save from Matthew L two Heaton players were queing up for the rebound 1-0. heads didn't drop and Wideopen pushed for the equaliser. Joe F picked play on halfway breezed passed two defenders cut infront of another and beautifully slotted home 1-1.
Wideopen were awarded a corner good ball in required a desperate defensive looped clearance which only reached as far as Sean T waiting on the edge of the box who caught the ball on the volley, botton corner 2-1. an unlucky deflected shot took both teams to halftime 2-2.
Wideopen set the tone for the second half pressing Heaton back and forced them to play on the break. However, this plan was to be Wideopen's downfall. Heroics coupled with another exceptional goalkeeping performance wasn't enough as Heaton found two more as they broke. Wideopen were unable to add to their tally despite their effort.
Man of the Match: Joe F.
Managers comments: More strength is going to be needed in our tackles but nothing much wrong.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Match Report: Wideopen vs Westgate Warriors 20/10/07
Squad: Matthew C (captain), Matthew L, Lee A, Jack R, Connor M, Connar T, Joe F, Joseph F, Sean T.
Wideopen had a break in the previous week, as many of the professional teams suffer from these unwanted interruptions wideopen looked on course to do the same. The start to the game was far from what expected from the management as wideopen struggled to break past the halfway line in the first 10 minutes. Little did we know the first major turning point was to unfold in front of us and change the game for its duration. Joe F picked up the ball midway in his own half and put together one of many jinking runs this seemed to knock westgate right back after there promising start.
Wideopen took the lead through Joe F as he struck home from what seemed like an impossible angle, many more attacks seen wideopen come close with no reward, especially unlucky when Joseph F found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper but just could get on the end of what was a clever through ball which carried just a little to much pace. halftime 1-0 Wideopen.
After the break Wideopen really started to press putting Westgate under constant pressure. Joe F. was to add a second, after a few more opportunities he was able to complete his first hat trick for Wideopen.
Westgate were able to break one-on-one near the end of play to grab a conciliation. this was very much against the run of play were a continuing good performance from our captain Matthew C.
Man of the Match: Joe F.
Managers comments: good performance from all. with the run of play we need to improve in front of goal. great hat trick Joe.

Match Report:
Kingston Park Orange vs Wideopen 06/10/07
Squad: Matthew C (Captain), Matthew L, Connor M, Jack R, Sean T, Joe F, Joseph F, Anthony.
Following a good performance in our previous league fixture we were hoping for a similar approach and attitude to today's game from all.
The game started with no real pattern or urgency from either team, the ball found touch often as both teams tried to find each other out.
Wideopen were finding it hard to put the meat into some tackles which they were able to grow so well from in their previous game. That, coupled with Kingston Park having a little too long get their heads up and pick out passes, had Wideopen defending their own box rather than higher up the field. Kingston Park took the lead after putting home a sloppy goal as Wideopen were requesting time to clear the ball from a corner which simply wasn't there.
The remaiming 5 mins of the half was all played in Wideopen's half as heads seemed to drop from most. This was not the case once more from ever performing Matthew L in goal, four or five great saves kept the score to 1-0.
Second half started well as Wideopen were growing and found themselves high up the pitch. A bit of fortune saw the ball drop at Joe F's feet on the edge of the box, a smart bit of skill to beat a man then a nice slotted finish had Wideopen back to 1-1. Kingston Park then produced what finished being a fine moment in the game. Their no.7 danced round a few tackles on the wing, delivered a super cross which was met on the volley. (wow, lovely goal)! Their second then led to a third with 10mins remaining on the clock. Wideopen then remembered how to play football, the game became stretched with Wideopen pushing for goals which allowed Kingston Park to break with dangerous effect. This was the remaining pattern for the rest of the game.
As the England debate continues over the drop in form of their no.1 Paul Robinson, Steve McClaren will find himself with another goalkeeping headache this weekend. No such problem for the under 8's as Matthew L continued with yet another special performance in goal with some truly great saves. This earned him another well deserved man of the match.
A run from Joe F deep into Kingston Park's half with a good pass found waiting Joseph F in the box. He turned and shot, bottom corner, Goal! Time ran out for Wideopen in the end as they searched for their third.
Managers comments: We allowed Kingston Park too much time to play in truth. Next time out requires a little more in-your-face attitude and a bit more aggression.

Match Report: Wideopen v. Montagu Eagles - 29th September 2007
Squad : Matthew C (Captain), Matthew L, Connor M, Lee A, Sean T, Jack R, Joe F, Joseph F.
Before kick off we had a one minute silence in respect of the sad loss of Shane, He will be deeply missed by all at Wideopen Juniors.
First home game for Wideopen and with new strips it seemed to bring a new lease of life to the squad. A new aggressive Wideopen side started the game with only one intention - to win, This looked like it would happen until Wideopen conceded a penalty, which was put away with style that left Matthew L, our keeper, no chance of saving.
As the management feared the worst, the players had different ideas and started bullying the opposition once more. A fantastic surging run lead to Wideopen winning a corner. All players crammed into the opposition's box hoping to score from the corner. Joe F, who took the corner, saw a gap and quick thinking saw him drill home from the corner flag - Wideopen's equaliser. Level at half-time, spirits were high and confidence flowing throughout.
Second-half seen Wideopen constantly apply the pressure but a good defensive display from Montagu lead to many corners. A new all-running and tackling Joseph F was fouled on the half way line after a great run and decided to take the free kick. A fantastic weighted pass looped over the defence and Joe F controlled it and cheekily chipped it past the keeper - Wideopen lead.
Despite Wideopen dominating large spells of the game, Montagu still displayed some fine football and still applied the pressure to Wideopen. The defensive lapse in Wideopen's game saw Montagu one-on-one with the keeper and a well-placed shot beat the keeper as he came out. However, out of nowhere a spectacular premiership-standard sliding tackle saw Jack R clear the ball off the line - this was the highlight of his well deserved man of the match performance. Due to a fantastic display from the defence which included Matthew C, Connor M, Lee A and Jack R this left our keeper Matthew L with little to do but still remained solid and composed. A typical Joe F performance seen him terrorise the back line once more and slotted the ball past the keeper only to be cleared as far as the edge of the box which seen a brilliant screamer of a shot by our captain Matthew C giving wideopen a third. Even with the score line being what it was Montagu didn't stop pressing and one more attack left two on one and only a magnificent sliding tackle by Lee A could stop Montagu from getting one back, An all new agressive Wideopen were spurred on by the excellent and passionate performance of Sean T.
Managers Comments:
FANTASTIC!!! Lets hope we can keep this up.

First fixture of the season
22nd September - Away to Newcastle East End
Match Report:
Squad: Mathew C (Captain). Mathew L. Connor M. Conner T. Joseph F. Joe F. Lee A. Sean T. Jack R.
Wideopen Juniors start well into the wind remembering key points on holding positions when defending especially at the back.
Newcastle East End seemed to settle the game with 10 mins remaining in the first half, allowing them the lion share of the play which saw them take a quick 4 goals lead with some great strikes into half time.
Second half saw a new, more aggressive Wideopen side take the field. An inspiring second half display from goalkeeper Mathew L. allowed Wideopen to press the play and start to enjoy what turned out to be a real battling game.
Connor M., who played in the heart of the defence, took the Man of the Match Award after a display which not only had heart and aggression but the quality that impressed the most was the ability to read the game at a standard far advanced from his age level.
Wideopen pressed and got caught on the break one last time to see the game end 5-0.
Managers comments: Outstanding second half display after going 4-0 down so quickly. Hope to carry on this attitude into the rest of the season. Well done all.
