13th May 2012: Newcastle City Juniors 3 – 2 Wideopen Wanderers

Due to the recent heavy rain it was decided that the only way to guarantee that this fixture went ahead was to play on the 3G at the Excelsior Academy.
The conditions were difficult due to a stiff breeze blowing up the Tyne Valley but the quality of the football in the 1st half was fairly good considering.
There were chances at either end but it was Wideopen who broke the deadlock, Ryan Graham stabbing home Louis Pratt’s corner after the ‘keeper failed to gather the ball.
It was soon 2 – 0 and it was Ryan again from close range after some good work from Richie Coulson. At this stage the lads should have kept the ball and frustrated the opposition but instead they let the home team back in and it was only due to some good saves from Andrew “Josh” Robson that kept them out.
Although the talk at half time was of keep ball and making a quick start it was Pin Point who were the better team throughout the second period, scoring three goals without reply as Wideopen squandered a number of good chances.
A disappointing result after a good 1st half performance.
