Under 17s Squad Nov09
Squad 2009 / 2010

As the season comes to a close and at this time of the year we should be thinking of the summer break and where we will all be watching the world cup. This is not the case for the under 17s as due to the weather earlier in the season we have been playing three games a week Sunday, Wednesday, Sunday for the last 6 weeks to catch up with the back log. The team were sitting 5th in the league before the onset of all these games with still a realistic chance of winning the league although we had still to play all the teams above us. The lads have been absolutely top class through the period and in the last two weeks have given themselves a great chance with 6 games left to win the league beating Whitley Bay, Blyth, and Cram Blue Star. Some of the football we have played has been of the highest standard with several of the opposition’s managers complimenting the lads on their attitude and mentioning that we are the best footballing team in the league they have played against. I am not one to count the chickens before they have hatched but feel the lads deserve some credit no matter what happens in the remaining 6 games. The lads would welcome any support you can give in the last 6 games with 5 wins needed to secure the title we have three home games left and the dates and times will appear on the website. Thanks again to the entire squad for all the efforts so far, let’s make sure it is not wasted effort!!

UNDER 17s UPDATE

With three games left to play things are hotting up for the run in to the title. It is now a four horse race with all sorts of connotations available. Wideopen have hit the top spot after a emphatic 8-0 win at home to Marden with David Clark finding his scoring boots again weighing in with a great hatrick. We have gone 1 point clear of early pace setters Whitley Bay who drop to second after losing to third place Redheugh 2-1. We have a game in hand on Redheugh which is this Wednesday night at Grainger Park and are currently two points ahead of them. Cullercoats are also pushing hard which will make the final two games against Cullercoats planned for next week a bit nail biting. All in all it makes for an exciting end to the season. Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!
