| Squad: Mathew C (captain), Matthew L, Sean T, Sam W, Joe L, Connor M, Danny G, Tom O.
Last year, Morpeth had be crown champions in the league above us so we knew from the outset that it would be a hard game. Wideopen started the game brightly and were extremely creative. They got the ball down and passed the ball very well. In the first period, both teams were sussing each other out but it was Morpeth that took the lead with a tap in at the far post.
Again, the second period started brightly resulting in a vast number of shots on both goalkeepers. Sean T was unfortunate not to score, hitting the post and bar on 2 separate occasions. It turned in to a very open, end to end game which was entertaining for all involved. The opposition goalkeeper kept out further efforts from our midfield and Matthew L oozed class in goal for us. He pulled of many great saves. The team were unfortunate to concede a second goal, which came against the run of play.
The third period, again end to end, was where Wideopen started to look like they could get back into the game and even push for the win. By dominating the play, we managed to hit the |

woodwork on a further 2 occasions.
It took until the fourth quarter to finally get the goal that was thoroughly deserved for the effort of the lads. Danny G nicely turned in a perfectly weighted corner from Sam W to bring the game back within touching distance. 2-1 Game On. Wideopen continued to press and went extremely close to levelling the scores on several occasions.
Unfortunately, with minutes to go Morpeth put the game out of reach with 2 goals in quick succession which made the result 4 – 1.
Man of the match: Sean T – Sean was a fantastic attacking threat throughout the whole game and continually caused many problems for the opposition defence.
Iron Man: Matthew L - Matthew had one of them games that really stand out. At times his saves were phenomenal, especially when making quick fire double saves. He was a rock at the back, and extremely difficult to beat.
Managers Comments: Overall, it was a performance to be proud of. The lads played extremely well and deserved more out of the game. |
