Under 9 Meteors Match Day Experience - Newcastle v. Norwich

It was a lovely sunny Sunday morning when we arrived at Lockey Park to board our bus to NUFC training ground.  Spirits were high and we had 15 excited 9 year olds on our hands.  Our outing soon got under way with a sing along on the bus, the Blaydon Races could be heard bellowing out for miles!!!  We pulled into the training ground only to pass Obertan's getting into his big black range rover, this sent the excitement levels soaring.  We were met by Robbie who is a Newcastle United coach, he looked after us for the whole day and did a grand job.  He took us straight to the famous "press room" where we had a sneaky photo taken and as he sat in Alan Pardew's seat he gave us a quick chat on what would be happening throughout the day.  We were then taken to the indoor training area which was met with a few wows, a huge place with artificial grass 5 times as thick as a carpet!!!  The training session soon got under way, the lads were out of puff within 5 minutes and that was only the warm up!!!  The next 2 hours was spent learning new skills etc and at the end of the session they were split into 4 famous teams and enjoyed playing matches against each other.  Then Robbie announced that we were allowed 4 ball boy places for the Newcastle v Norwich game.  The lucky lads that were picked were Joseph Rickerby, Adam Coates, Brandon Gibbon and Will Robson how excited were they!!!

With no time to spare we were back on the bus and heading to the one and only St James Park.  We arrived in plenty of time and were taken down to the players entrance.  We were lucky to see some of the players arrive.  We gave Shola Ameobi the biggest cheer and got a nice wave back of him.  We were then taken through the players entrance and along the side of the pitch to go for our pre match meal, up to level 4 we went now singing "Toon Toon Black and White Army".  The ball boys were served first as they had to be ready to go and do the most important job of their lives.  The rest of us enjoyed our meal and had another wave of excitement as Dwight York came to use "our toilets".  Sneaky Mitchell Douglas saw an opportunity and followed him in.  He was happy to sign a few autographs and later on while sitting in the commentary box he gave us all a wave, think we have a new friend for life!!!

We were then shown to our seats just in time to see the ball boys out on the pitch in the centre circle doing a great job of holding the flag.  They told us later on it had been the best day ever.  They got to run through the tunnel onto the pitch in front of the players, they had a few pats on the back and ruffles of hair of the likes of Papiss Cisse and Jonas Gutierrez.

The rest as you probably all know was magical a win for Newcastle what more could we have asked for.  We headed home after the match with the same 15 excited kids, all asking to go back next season and be ball boys!!!  The parents met us at Lockey Park and we ended the day with our final song "Toon Toon Black and White Army" as we got off the bus.

The lads were a credit to Wideopen Juniors and all behaved well a very good day was had by all.
